Just rec'd this pipe. I want to keep it, but it has an issue with the stem.
For one it's pretty loose (might be a second). I think some bees wax might fix it, but the other issue is that it doesn't join well with the shank. There's a good size gap (can't see it in the photo).
I am torn between returning it and keeping it. None of these issues were disclosed, so a return shouldn't be a problem.
I am tempted to send it out to an expert to fix it or fit it with a new stem. Plus there's some grey fills that I would like to stain to match better.
I am curious who you would recommend. I know some of the better repair folks can take several weeks to get to it and I really don't want to wait that long. Plus, I don't want to throw good money after bad - so I am hoping a repair like this isn't too costly.
Suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion. Much appreciated. The pipe has a lot going for it. 7 inches long (seller claimed 7.25). Really nice finish on it too.

Very nice pipe. You may want to check out Floyd Norwwod at Norwood Pipes in Clifton, Tenn. He's worked on several of my pipes and does great work at reasonable prices and very fast service.

Nice looking Canadian. I see online that it's a Comoy second.
Walker Briar Works is very highly recommended. I have some pipes I am going to send to him for stem replacement. He does what he calls a "no-scuff" stem replacement, which appeals to me. He charges $55 for a complete restoration, including stem replacement. Stem replacement is $24. Maybe the stem can be salvaged by working on the tenon. If you haven't already, check out his web site and take it from there. Let us know what you do.

thanks papipeguy for the tip on Floyd Norwood.
I just tried fixing this pipe as best I could, still cannot get the stem to fit right - it is definitely a second.
The pipe is so nice I decided to keep it anyway. Smokes perfectly and is unique. I emailed Walker to get an idea of cost for a new stem. If I go that route, I will update with new photos. :puffy:
