Most of what I smoke tends to be English blends, most of those moderate to heavily influenced by Latakia. This is a good thing.
But I'm readying a TAD order and I want to get something I haven't tried before that will really give me a taste for what Perique is all about.
To be clear, I'm not looking for something with "a hint of Perique" in it. Rather, I'm looking to try something that Perique lovers love so I can get a handle on whether i do as well.
So, suggestions?

Escudo is certainly the benchmark VaPer, but not light on the Perique--16%, according to a Lane rep. If you'd like a lower-content introduction of Perique, try some of the Hearth & Home blends, like Virginia Spice or AJ's Vaper. Also an excellent and very light blend is Orlik Golden Sliced--and very economical to boot.

If you are looking for perique, try H&H Frenchy's Sunzabitches. Any questions just read the description at the pipes&cigars.com site.

McClelland's St. James Woods has a decent amount of Perique but not overpowering. :puffy:

Thanks for all the input.
I've ordered some Escudo. The goal here is not so much to dip a toe in the water as to dive in and see how I like it. So I was looking for a tobacco that was decidedly Perique-centric. I'll be able to tell if it's something I like, something I'd like in lesser quantities, or something I'd rather leave alone. Consensus seems to be that Escudo will fill that bill.
Russ's article was interesting reading, as always.
And I've smoked Peterson Irish Oak before, without realizing it had Perique. But the blend has SO strong of a nic kick for me that I didn't much enjoy it on that basis, so never went back to it. I couldn't tell you what it tasted like now, so if that was my intro to Perique, I wasn't paying attention.
Again, thanks for the input.

Don't forget the obligatory bowl of straight Perique. If you make it to the bottom without dying from nicotine poisoning, you should get your He-man Woman-Haters Club Introductory Membership Kit in the mail in a few days...
I find, like Lawrence, a pinch of Perique adds wonders to many blends.

The thing to remember about Perique is that it's not just about the percantage of Perique in a blend but also what it's being blended with. For example, Russ mentioned H&H Anniversary Kake. It has almost as much Perique as Escudo but is a completely different smoke. I agree with lordnoble about the bowl of straight Perique, just be sure you're sitting down and grab onto your socks. :puffy:
