This auction finished a couple days ago. One of the better specimens I've seen in quite a while:

Neither.
I spend my billions on yachts, business jets, fine art, and so forth. The usual stuff.

There was a 1926 bruyere 35 with box, papers, and spare inner tube that went for more than $800 recently. Not nearly as collectable nirvana as this one, though.

This 1920 Bruyere 35 was more in my budget. I am probably going to send this one off to GeorgeD.

The stem looks good (upside down in the stummel notwithstanding), the Reg'd stamp is intact, and the stamping outstanding. I hope my gamble pans out

That's neat. I wonder what the "inner tube" is and how it affects the smoke

I couldn't help it...spoken with jovial respect, unlike Harris or Peck.

I have no idea what's up with those photos, jpm. Truly bizarre. It looks like badly done Photoshop, or something.
Why anyone would try that---or even want to---makes even less sense, though.

I recall seeing another pipe a year ago where on first blush it seemed the shank was bigger than the stem at point of juncture, but closer looks showed it was not so- a shadow from poor lighting, IRRC.
This one really looks like a crap job at a replacement stem.

Could be a serious lottery-win-class pipe, there. :D Rare + great condition, just dirty + sold by non-pipe person + no evidence of previous restoration attempt(s) + (relatively) low auction win price.
The only big "if" is whether the chamber walls are burned.
I'd love to help you with it if you're so inclined. 8)
