I just received the pipe I commissioned from Raimo Riberg. Raimo is Estonian, and I first noticed his work on the Virtual Pipe Club’s Facebook feed.

He posted some photos of a pipe that caught my eye, and I contacted him to ask if he could make something similar with a couple of personal requests for bowl diameter, etc. The price he quoted was very reasonable, so I took the chance. Until he sent me some photos shortly before he put the pipe in the mail, I had no idea the pipe included the very well-done leather case and pipe holder (hand made by his mother). Time will tell how it smokes, but so far so good halfway through the first bowl. It’s also light as a feather.

Traditional and distinctive at the same time. I like the extra large chamber, the smooth brim with the rusticated bowl, the tasteful ridged band, the flow of the stem and shank, the paneled shank, and the bright color of the stem. That it is light weight is appealing. The case and pipe rest make it a complete package. If I were looking for a commission, I'd definitely follow up.
