I've noticed a lot of Aztec racks with the cedar lined humidor in antique shops lately. It doesn't really seem practical to me to store pipe tobacco in a wooden box. What am I missing?
Those were made a long time ago. I would think that if conditioned properly the cedar might impart its scent on pipe tobacco. I have my grandfather's tobacco cabinet from the 1920's and it is copper lined. There are 2 hooks for a humidification device which was probably clay.
In short, I would not store bilk tobacco in cedar but others may disagree.
Something like THIS?
Personally, I would never do so. Also, I would think that cedar would impart some unwanted flavor to the tobacco. Then again, I don't believe in and would never use any type of pipe tobacco humidor. All of my tobacco goes into Ball or Kerr jars.
