R.I.P. Joel Sherman Last Proprietor Of N.Y.C's Nat Sherman's

Joel Sherman, the longtime owner of the Nat Sherman store in New York City, died yesterday after a long battle with Parkinson’s. He was 85 years old.
Part of the legendary elegance and class of the worlds greatest city, Joel and his iconic store, both now are gone but not forgotten.

He was a purveyor of one of the world's finest luxury cigarette as well as other fine products.

This is very sad to hear. Everything Is an Afterthought: The Life and Writings of Paul Nelson (published in 2011), a book I designed, featured decorated boards with art I recreated of the period correct Nat Sherman Cigarettellos that Paul smoked incessantly—Joel Sherman was incredibly cool and nice—he generously (and unofficially, with a nudge, nudge, wink, wink because of advertising laws) let my friend and me use the graphic on the binding.

Great memories of their Midtown shop- closed in 2020. Had a fine bowl or two with Simon, and bought a briar covered Old Boy in commemoration.

May he rest in a glorious peace for all he's done for us.
