R.I.P. Jim Lovell

Test pilot, Gemini and Apollo astronaut Jim Lovell has died aged 97.​

First to reach the moon on Apollo 8, and later again on the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission, Lovell never got to walk on its surface.

Lovell epitomized grace under fire! Consider what the crew of Apollo 13 had to endure. These were heroes.

Both my father and my uncle knew many of the astronauts. My father had engineered life support on both the Gemini and Apollo missions and my uncle trained them to do proper geological prospecting on the moon.

I met Lovell and a couple other of the Apollo crewmen at an event a few years ago. Lovell was a genuinely nice and humble guy.
