Island Gold and Island Mixture are a couple of one-off blends from Gawith & Hoggarth.

I've been smoking Island Mixture as a change of pace the last couple of days, in a Falcon meer and one try in the Chacom Reverse Calabash. The new meer bowl on my Falcon was the outright winner.

Fresh, it was strongly fruity with an old granny undertow, probably from rose geranium. Having had the tin open for a couple of days, the undertow has receded, leaving a remarkably acidic tropical fruit melange of tastes - the acidity reminds me of pineapple, although it's more of an inferred flavour in the mix.

Very immediate, front and centre fruits, it's best to be gentle with it although any tendency to bite has diminished since I opened the tin. Moisture level is perfect, burns to a light grey ash, the taste of the actual tobacco makes itself hinted at, mostly in the last third.

Normally, I wouldn't go within a mile of this sort of thing, but the fruity acid freshness is so remarkable that I've come back to it - says a lot for the blender's skill.
