I bought some Captain Earl 10 Russians and night-watch and some Erin more Flake. Why are they packed in cubes/slabs?

And should I break them up?

The Ten Russians is a crumble cake. You can break it apart in your hands very easily to whatever consistency suits your taste. Some thing with the flake. Fold it in half and then break it apart with your fingertips to achieve a sort of stringy cut, or you can just fold the flake and stuff it in your pipe. I believe that with other cake tobaccos, like something thats not labeled crumble cake, you have to actually slice it apart with a knife and then you can also rub it between your hands to desired consistency.

Flakes (the slices or slabs) can either be rubbed out(broken up) or or folded and stuffed for loading, it's kinda a personal preference, either will work.

thanks as of recently I had only been ripping sections out of the cake and mostly folding the flake. What do guys think about breaking up the cake and letting it sit in the can?
