The suspense is killing me ... have I ended up with a bunch of duds?
This wee collection, purchased during a 48 hour buying frenzy on eBay from different sellers (although the 4 x Paronelli's all from the same seller), are winging their way to me as I type.
I would love to know what the PM's gurus think of my "finds" - good, bad, indifferent, useless, fling it in the bin - be brutal, I can take it but only because I know diddly squat about pipes, having only had 4 bowls thus far.
The ONLY one that's been smoked is the Kaywoodie with gold banding (not even sure if it's real gold, but it sure is perty!!)
Please check out my gallery and put your comments here as I can't find stuff written else where, still finding my way around this place & it's not easy for a technophobe.

Oh, I know the Vauen bag is a fake (have a wonderful email from them) and the seller is going to find themselves toasted by Vauen, me and eBay!
Thanks in advance from this very nervous newbie.

I dont know much about Paronellis, but the ones in the pictures look rather nice. I am kind of leary of wood pipes that are carved into whimsical figures and faces, having never had experience with one, but Im sure that my leariness is misplaced and Im sure that they will be fine. The Doctor Grabows look like nice pipes. I own several and they are great smokers. That pipe from Italy looks nice and will be a good smoker, Im sure, and the French pipe looks in good shape with the exception of the stem. Some love and care will be needed to make the stem nice and black again. If you use it while it is still brown like that it is probably gonna taste a little funny. All in all, it looks like a fine collection, and it looks like you got some really good scores here. Hope that was of some help. Take care!

Wow, you really did succumb to a PAD attack. Would appear to have done well at that in as much as they are supposed to be un-smoked.
The one you've titled as love/hate is intriguing for sure. You've got clay, briar and a meer-lined, a variety of styles. I can't speak to the Paronelli's but the Dr.G's should all prove to be good smokers.
I'd say you had some fun bidding and winning!

I'm new at this myself so I'm no guru. But it look to me like your 48 hours were well spent. You have some beautiful pipes there.

Hey ya Cyndi - you're actually the reason I joined, well your posts were actually, as I said in another thread :)
Wish I was a girl, I'm a cranky, eccentric, impatient, 'ol technophobe who's determined to master the art of pipe smoking and procure a truckload of them before she goes to god. I see there's no shortage of teachers here.
Hi Spartan, at this stage I've not touched any of them, and I don't know the difference between a Kaywoodie & a cob at this point in time. If it's the one with the gold banding, seller dated it at C1900, hoping it's real gold not just gold filled.

At first I thought the White King was a meer, but obviously it isn't. Interesting.
Nice rack, btw.

I'd say you did pretty well on your selections really. At some point down the road you might find you like some a lot more than others, but for just starting out I'd say you picked more than one that will be a winner in a big way.

In other words, nice pipes !

I’m not sure what you paid for everything but I’d say if you’re comfortable with the amount than you’ve done just fine.
I for one like my lady friends to be a little cranky, eccentric, and somewhat impatient… Welcome to our little community and I hope you stay and post often... :puffy:

Woot, woot, I'm very happy to hear you guys think I've chosen ok! I'm known amongst my friends as the bargain shopper from hell and am always commissioned to procure stuff for them because of my bloodhood ability to sniff out a bargain - however, when it comes to pipes, I'm in completely unchartered territory & haven't got a clue so just shut my eyes & hope for the best.
I'll overcome my laziness & list the prices I paid .... all amounts is US$, UK Quids or Euros ...

All are very nice. I concur with the others 48 hrs. well spent.

I'm particularly fond of the Paronelli C1900 Can Can. It looks like fun!

Very much like a Tyrolean. Meant to be smoked with both elbows on a table and a mug o' beer at the ready.

Eeewwww Lawrence, lady's do not drink beer!!! (dons flaming suit) Well, I guess some would say it's unseemly for a woman to smoke a pipe too mind you. Hahaha I drive tractors and whistle with 2 fingers loud enough to wake the dead so I guess I'm no lady, but I sure do hate the taste of beer.
Can I ask a delicate question though concerning the Negress pipe - in my mind, it's not politically correct, and if I smoked it in public here, I'd be hung, drawn & quartered at dawn and I understand why.
I'm the least prejudiced person you'd ever meet, but I often deliberately buy politically incorrect things just to leave for my children to show how "bad" the world used to be i.e. 20 years ago I bought "Darkie's" toothpaste in Singapore because it horrified me. I would NEVER allow my kids to have a golliwog, but always ensured they had a Cabbage Patch doll of colour so as to learn love for all mankind. I hope y'all can see where I'm coming from on this pipe - trying to decide to leave it unsmoked for posterity or smoke away daring to do so in front of others. How do USA citizens see it as being acccepted, or not?

If you look at many of our meers, quite a lot of them are fully naked women. I see nothing but beauty in them and anyone who doesn't like it can kiss my ass.
Actually, we had a DFCS (children services) investigator in our house last month to talk to my oldest son. We are pressing charges against his former foster home. Anyways, she saw the pipe collection including the nudes and she stood in awe of the beauty and said "I have never seen anything like it!" Anyways, you're going to find unintentional racism anywhere. I was told last week that calling my two youngest Irish Twins (they were born in the same year) was racist against Irish Catholics. *shrug*
