I found a dunhill lighter at a antique store for 55.00, and it doesn't have a flint. I'm seriously thinking about getting it, but would like to know more about them and would it be worth it.
looks kinda like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-DUNHILL-LIGHTER-SILVER-PLATED-VERTICAL-LINES-/261248029603?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd39893a3

The bottom fill port has a slot

Thanks BB, as far as flints what are options on them it currently doesn't have one and I kinda want to check to see if it will even light. As far as service thats referring to replacing the o-rings correct?
I'll be heading out here in a bit to go look at it again after some research, I didn't want to buy a knock off.

Thanks for the info BB, I went and check the lighter out again and it looked great just needed some cleaning. I filled it and put a flint in it but couldn't get it to light, I talked them down some on the price, hard to get people to go down on something that may not work. I figured what the heck this would be a risk but if I can't get it to work I could sell it on ebay.
I got it home and put some Vector Quituplus fluid in it and still didn't light. I searched some more and found a video of someone using the fluid to clean the tip, I tried it and the tip started to pop out like it should. It works good but seems like it may leak from the side.

BB knows them, I never had one, but a friend of mine back in the 70's had the gold one & that lighter was in Europe for repairs more times than he ever got out of town. But it was Cool!

I've sent it off to be repaired hopefully I get it back soon. I really like it, and its the first high end lighter I ever bought. I usually collect zippos and I use my zippo pipe lighter to light up with. The one year warranty is a really nice way to back your repairs and wife told me to send it off, lol.

Well I got the pipe out here with me now (arrived two days after I left, and wife sent it on to me). The thing is really nice, I like the size and feel of it. Kinda like the way the Sav I received before I left.
I'll upload some pics when the internet is more stable, right now can't upload anything.

Very nice. I have the gold plated version. You should invest in a can of Dunhill fluid or one of those that come with the many little adaptor tips so you can refill it properly. Oh, and don't screw around with the other port on the bottom, seems to throw things out of whack.

+1 on using Zippo flints although they do create a lot of flint dust. I make it a habit to brush the insides with a small toothbrush every other night or so.

Did you get it converted to pipe flame ?

I didn't get the pipe flame although I wish I did now. I have made a couple of silver marks on my meerschaum while smoking it. Luckily they come off easy enough if I get them early. I gotta say I really enjoy it though, haven't lit a cigar with it and wind is problematic (but when is wind not when lighting up). I do scrub it with the brush it came with often, I believe it was well worth the investment, and say if you can find one cheap I think they are a nice addition to the pipe cabinet.

Very nice lighter jeepnewbie. I have just grabbed a "Peterson" lighter, in the "Old Boy" style on ebay. Very curious what it will be like once rec'd.

@reborn, that's a Dunhill 'Rollagas'. You got a bargain!! It needs the 'red' Dunhill flints. Current price 400 UK pounds and up! Suggest you use Dunhill fuel as well. Lovely soft flame - no use in a breeze.
I have a Dunhill 'Signature' Rollagas which cost me £100 mint. I got a bargain too !! lol
I use it in the house. I was using it when you visited, but you were too pissed to notice!! LOL

@jeepnewbie, sorry but you may continue to receive late night abuse from me if you don't change your avatar to one somewhat dissimilar to recborn's!! lol Everything I said about the lighter is accurate; you did get a bargain, and IMO you should get it modified so the flame is re-directed to suit the pipe. Use only Dnhill red flints and Dunhill fuel. Thereby, it will last several generations!!
@reborn, fuck! fucky-fuck fuck!! lol You got one over on me, ya bass!!! LOL

Funny flaky, been using this one as my avatar since I joined. I'm just not as active as reborn. :D Compared to the price of a new one of those lighters whew, they get rather pricey don't they. Don't think I'll be buying a new one, unless I won the lottery. And paid my house off first.
@reborn why you steal my avatar? Joking :D

@jeepnewbie - yep, just be pleased with what you got - it's a steal!! lol And look after it.....and get it converted to the pipe (mine is, and it was worth it - little cost)
@reborn - that is an avatar usurper !! LOL

@jeepnewbie This old picture has been doing the rounds. I use it on my business cards as well! I chose it for a number of reasons. Firstly, being a pipe restorer from Ireland, I liked it as it features a Peterson pipe. Secondly the dog is a French Bulldog. We have 2 Frenchies and have successfully bred 2 litters from them. I was never a dog lover until we got our male French Bulldog, they are just a unique breed.
So with these 2 elements I felt the picture summed me up nicely! Here is my main man get cosy beside the heat of the oven!
