I am heading over to Qatar for business, and would like to know if anyone else has been over there. I know their main style of smoking is hookahs and I would like to find a legit shop that sells briar or meerschaum pipes, along with tobacco.

Other than the duty free shops at the airport and, maybe, the hotel shops, there is one listed in Doha. Al Khozama Tobacco +974 4483-137 . I don't know anything about them but they are in the phone book.

The only time I spent in Qatar was in the airport. In the duty free shop they had a steal on Davidoff pipe tobacco and I bought as much as I could legally put in my carry on bag. I was there on a lay over going to Abu Dhabi. While in Abu Dhabi I found a chain of shops called "Smokers Shop." They had a nice selection of pipe tobacco and high end pipes as well as all the local styles of smoking. It was a very high end shop. I remember their advertising saying they had locations in Bahrain and Qatar so you may find one. I have tried to look them up just for nostalgia reasons and could not find them. If you are staying in a hotel with a concierge, ask them and I am sure they can point you in the right direction.
Thanks I'll look for those shops. I'm going to be looking for a pipe for my friends husband as he also smokes and collects. I think getting something from overseas is pretty cool and would like to find something that stands out.
Well I'm over here now and haven't had a chance to get off the base. On this installation they don't sell anything tobacco related except for some hookahs and a few cheap pipes I think are made of plastic that has a metal bowl with a screw in the bottom. Looking forward to seeing the city of Doha.
