Proper tobacco for Calabash

Hey all, I have a Butz-Choquin BZ 6218 Calabash shape and I'm on the hunt for just the right blend. This pipe of mine has seen mostly Dark Star and FVF since I bought it, but due to the extreme bowl taper, I find it hard to smoke these VA's as unbroken flakes. Has anyone here had experience with the calabash shape? What did you find was the ideal tobacco for the unique bowl? Also, what has been your preferred packing method? Thanks all.

McClelland 5110 Dark English is pretty tasty in about any style pipe.
