I left my email with an online retailer to notify me when a pipe was re-stocked. It was/is a handsome

but not expensive pipe, listed in the old posting as priced at $61.20, or right around that. When I received

the notice that the pipe had been restocked, it was priced at $77. Since the same line, although not that

same pipe, is offered elsewhere at $59 and change, I thought of calling and bartering them down (if they

will consider it) to $70. I really don't need another pipe, so I may well just forget it. Has anyone else noticed

precipitous price increases when they leave their email for notification on back-ordered pipes?

Good idea. If the current "low pricer" can't get it at that price, they might offer it for less than the high pricer,

and the high pricer might still come down, meet me half way. 'Don't want to get the pipe just for the joy of

doing the deal, but I may go ahead. Thanks. And has anyone else noticed a precipitous price increase when

asking for notification on re-stocked pipes? I can see that the price might jump, but this seemed sudden.

I'd expect a price increase between re-stocks to be no more than five to ten percent, and even that seems

steep. Incidentally, I saw this same pipe earlier on smokingpipes.com, and they had it for the $61.20 price,

but it sold. They also might order it, at that price. Incidentally, I recently received notification from Iwan Ries

on a different pipe that went out of stock, and they notified me it had been restocked at exactly the same price.

Iwan Ries is an old tobacconist, and on some pipes, they have very good deals.

Well put explanation that hits it on the head Roth. I'll add that raw stock material prices & labor costs very well may be a factor too. I know the product I supply for a small user base hobby has doubled in production costs this year for me.
