When I'm driving or out in the field, it is not always convenient to use some blends from a tin. Plumb Pudding being an example. Cake, coins or flakes are hard to handle sometimes for me, especially if I'm driving. I have been crumbling some up and putting it in a pouch or zip lock ready to pack. Is this improper or does the hive have another option that is better?

I don't think there is a proper or improper scenario here. If you just process and pouch what you need for the day, you still retain the rest in original format. If you crumble a bit more than you need, well, you'll have some dried "kindling" to help get the next batch started.
I save all the random tobacco ziplocks I get in a small pile. I fill one with the travel blend of the hour and then cram the ziplock into my plaid Decateur tobacco pouch. That keeps my pouch clean and like new, plus prevents over-drying and spilling of the travel stash.

I keep one of the thicker walled sealing baggies in my car with ready rubbed or just recently rubbed tobacco. It dries very slowly due to the bag's thickness, it being rolled up, and RH being benign where I live. It has lived in the car as long as a month before getting swapped out.

"I just use a simple tri fold pouch. Old school style. I actually use the one my grandfather used."

Nice.
