Well,I had a minor stroke in August 2014. Problem was an occlusion in my right caratid artery (80 percent). I haven't smoked my pipes since then. Th stroke of weakened my left side. Still in the process of recovery.
I've done so me Internet research and found the following:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1060377/
I'd rather not smoke than have another stroke but I do miss it!

One problem is that the study does not provide results for those who smoke pipes only, but in the absence of clear results, you're probably best off abstaining.

Quit thinking (obsessing?) on the pipe. Remove all traces of them, store them out of sight and mind. Then find something else to do. Stay away from the forum if you have to. In a few months, come back and tell us how you are doing, what you found to occupy your mind instead of the pipe. Keep your mind busy, have fun!

The study did show some stats for those who only smoked pipes. Make sure to read all of it.

This is the best information I have found to date, and the risk for a stroke, for a pipe smoker is essentially the same as not smoking a pipe. 1.0 is "normal" and here stroke comes in at 1.3, which is essentially no increased risk. You are an adult, do what you deem to be in you own best interest. Like a broken record, all the studies show that consuming any alcohol and smoking a pipe, or any tobacco for that matter, is real bad mojo.

Your genetic code determines most of your health. Pay the most attention to the past two generations and what happened to them.

Nicotine constricts blood vessels, raises blood pressure, increases clotting factors in your blood, and damages the endothelial cells of your arteries. None of which is good for someone with a history of stroke. Pick up your pipes at your own peril
That being said I've come back to pipe smoking after quitting for 20 years because of health issues. At 40 I had young kids that I wanted to see grow up. At 60 having sold my business and being home I decided to indulge myself and enjoy life

Probably not the wisest decision but what the hell

I'm going to agree with the naysayers, even though smoking a pipe is not usually very harmful it would be tempting fate too much to pick it up again.

With that being said, I recently lost a good friend who abstained from a quite a few harmful things, tobacco included. He was not in bad shape, always ate well with an eye to healthy foods and avoiding greasy fatty stuff. He exercised and was in all around pretty decent health. He still died at 52 of Congestive Heart Failure. So, we can make good decisions but in the end when it's time to go it's time to go

From first-hand experience of my own mortality, none of us will survive in the end. In the meantime, all that we can do is find any scraps of joy that can be found, whether it be with a pipe or other-wise. Make a decision that you'd be happy with, as long as it relates to your well-being. Regardless of what your choice may be, I wish you many, many years of happiness.

No point in being the healthiest guy in the cemetery. Moderation is the key. If you can't handle moderation then abstinence is the only alternative.

Best to not smoke. If you find you can't quit, I'd keep it to a bowl or two a week. Strokes can be so debilitating.

Something to be said for living a happy life and taking measured risks is part of that. Many of us smoke, some of us ride motorcycles and we all drive, I presume. Whatever you do, be hoe st with your doctor. Theywill ensure that you get the appropriate treatments and medication based on your feedback.

According to that study linked above, of 1623 pipe/cigar smokers, seven of them died from strokes within 18 years?
If someone told me that if I didn't stop smoking a pipe, I'd have a one in 232 chance of dying from a stroke within 18 years, I'd keep puffin'.
