Think critically about the suspension on these. In order to make them corner as they should, I suspect they are very tightly sprung, which takes a toll on your back and joints over time. You don't want to have to give it up after you've fallen completely in love with it, which might be easy. It's not a deal breaker, but a serious consideration.
My thinking is that I could really use something like this to restore a bit of fun in my life. Uncomfy? Maybe, but I think at this time I'm willing to sacrifice comfort for fun. I always wanted a Porsche and if not now when? I'm wondering how they are so far as reliability goes. Obviously repairs/upkeep are $$$, but just how $$$?

The car is beautiful. Several years ago I read a review of the experience of someone who had bought a new 911. He recounted ongoing difficulties that made the car sound like a lemon. Porsche reportedly was unhelpful. I suggest you look for this review on the web and think about it before committing lots of $$. I have no personal experience with Porsche and have never owned one.
I had a 911. Specifically a 993 C4S. Cheapest car I've ever owned. Oil changes were $300 though.
New it was $83,000 in 1996. I bought it used for $47,000. Sold it for $45,000 three years later. Today it's worth $150,000. And yes - I'm pissed at myself.

If you can afford it and more importantly if you can afford the loss if you have to sell it in a year or two I say go for it !!
I've driven Boxster's and 911's but not the Cayman. Both are nice cars. Porsches seem like well put together cars that are fun to drive. They will have their issues like most cars but they are nice to drive.

Now I am in love with the new 718 Cayman. It loosed two cylinders and some nice sound, but gained power and performances.
The only thing I can say is to test it, as every car, before buying it. Sometimes we underrate the importance of ergonomics and view and some small features that can become big when driving every day.

The Volvo C30 I currently drive isn't great on my back, but seeing as I don't work, the farthest I drive is 45min into town.
I'll be buying used. Not a chance am I taking that hit on a new car. Never. Porsche seems to hold value quite nicely. If I buy used and in a year decide it's not working out, I should be able to recoup most of what I have in it.
Matt, that's what I'm hoping. Porsche has been making basically the same car for decades, each very much an evolutionary car. This fact combined with German engineering would say that most of the kinks have been worked out. So long as it's well maintained and driven well, I would hope for very little trouble from the car. My little brother drives Audi and beyond reg maintenance never has to do a thing. I would hope Porsche is the same.
The Viper is without a doubt the most aggressive sorts car made in America. Very over the top. Luckily I'm wanting this car, not for its speed, but for its fit/finish/handling. I want a car to feel good in, have fun in, and NOT be murdered by

Is there a dealer or a European specialist shop near you? If not, you may have trouble finding someone who can work on it correctly. If you are buying it new, then I assume you'll be going back to the dealer for maintenance at least until the warranty runs out. Is maintenance included in the purchase price for the first couple years?

Welp ... I can pretty much guarantee that maintenance and repair costs will be twice as high (at least) as any vehicle you've ever owned. The cheapest part of owning a European performance car is buying it. After that, the costs really start coming in. Most of the Porsches I service at my shop, a basic oil change runs about $150. A basic brake job on one axle can easily go above $1000.

Haven't you considered the BMW 650i coupe?
I've had one in the past and it was a remarkable piece of machinery, with a lot of power and an amazingly fun drive. It is pure technology on your side and I don't recall having to fix it at all for around two years.
If I had the money I'd totally get it back.

I had an opportunity to drive a 2016 ZO6 last night, with all 650 hp unleashed in "Track" mode. That was most definitely the fastest car I've ever driven. Thats a little more than Cayman money, but worth selling your soul.
