I was recently given this Savinelli Punto Oro army mount pipe. However, it's not lining up with any of the information I see. As can be seen, this is stamped with 9004, but it looks like a 904. Also, I can't make out if this is sterling silver or nickel. I'm thinking it's sterling because of the tarnishing; I've never seen nickel look like this. Lastly, I'm trying to determine if the initials D.H.B. were added by a previous owner or, perhaps, was a special edition. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks for the help, folks. I'm not sure why the images didn't come through, that's why I set up the links, but then those stopped working, too. Anyway, here's some new links:

Concerning the silver: I can't tell if the hallmark has been worn off or not.
Thanks again!

So, it's an older 9004, and I would agree, the Army Mount looks like Sterling. I would think the D.H.B. are the previous owner's initials, not a special edition. I think the Sterling mount and stem both look great on that shape!
Savinelli opted for 3 digits shape code in the 1970's.

Prior to this date 4 digits code occured.

Also, one would not expect "hallmarks" on Italian silver, the Savinelli shield is on some of the silver used on Savinelli pipes.

Thanks Dave! I appreciate the help. While looking at the mount, I can barely make out "Sterling Silver" on one side and "Savinelli" on the other. I mean, it's almost completely gone.
Pre-1970, huh? That's really cool!
Thanks again!

That would make perfect sense. NICE PIPE!

Heavens! I picked one up two weeks ago, very much like that one. I love the metal dot in the stem, which I heard Dunhill sued over and won, so Sav no longer put a dot there.

I didn't see this thread when it was first posted last year, and now I have the pipe. Weird

Oh, and reading down through this thread, the silver is a shank accent. The stem goes into briar beneath the silver. Not a true military mount.

I got that one from SPC a few weeks ago. Apparently the OP tired of it and sold it to SPC, but now it's found its forever home!

 904s and 9004s are the center of my collecting interest. It'll be here for a while.
