Places to Smoke in Santa Barbara?

Hi all,

My family and I are in Santa Barbara for the next 4 days or so and I'm wondering if there are any spaces such as outdoor patios where smoking a pipe or cigar would be allowed. My son goes to UCSB so if there are places in Goleta, Montecito, or any other environs, I'd be willing to drive to take my 88 year old dad for a pipe or cigar.

I bet the campus is like here. Where there is no smoking on campus and the worst thing anyone ever says is could you not stand there smoking outside my office window. In fact one time someone said that I apologized and told them I was just looking for a spot out of the wind to light up, then they apologized and told me to carry on.

You can certainly smoke in your car. But last time I was in Santa Barbara, smoking anywhere in the down town area was verboten. And while it's generally verboten in all public areas I've found that in some parks, etc, where you're sitting on a bench away from people, you will be left alone.

Heck, when I was strolling through downtown San Francisco and enjoying a smoke sitting on a bench in Washington Square park, nobody, including the police, gave me a second look.

Thanks, gents. I see that there's a cigar bar on State St. so I might try that. Since my dad is 88, standing outside or in a park may not be viable.

As far as SF, smoking in parks away from people doesn't seem to be an issue. I do it regularly in Golden Gate Park and have never had a problem.

You could strap him into a hand truck. Then they can't blame him for where he is smoking and it won't cause him undue strain.

Good to know. Seriously next time I am in the area I plan on doing the same thing.
