Do you have a pipe that you really like but does not smoke well? I have a great pipe from Blatter and Blatter that is my favorite pipe but so far have not been able to smoke it well. This may be down to my novice methods but I can smoke my others without issue (most of the time anyway).

Well I love the look of my Butz-Choquin Daccord, but it tends to smoke pretty hot so I don't smoke it nearly as much as I'd like to. If it wouldn't smoke so hot I'd probably be smoking it every other day.

I have a few problem smokers. The main issue with them is gurgles. However, I love the feel in the hand and the grain so all is forgiven.

Interesting topic. I have a Pioneer black bent meer that just smokes hot. I've read here about how other's meers smoke cool. I've given 3 away because they smoked hot. Gotta be me.

I have a neat Sasieni 4-dot poker; but I don't smoke it much because the bowl is too deep,

and it's a PITA to smoke when the tobacco gets lower in the pipe.

I had a Butz Choquin that looked great, had beautiful rustification, but gurgled terribly. I loved the look of it, but had to sell it because I never smoked it.

My Lorenzo Studio used to smoke well but now it just does not do well with me. I am debating putting a thread up to trade it, I think I would rather try a poker and see how I like that shape.

I have a Baccara pipe that I ordered from pipesandcigars.com Its a full bent with beautiful rustication, nice big bowl, nice thick walls, and the damn thing gurgles no matter how loose I pack or how slow I smoke. Such is the nature of the business.

I love the shape and look of it, but it is really difficult to keep anything lit in it.

I don't have any...... If they gurgle I work on the stem and airway till I can figure out and fix why... If not, they go away. And, if I can't make a pipe smoke well without smoking hot or gurgling, it also goes away. So far, I haven't had to get rid of many.

My BC Daccord. Nice and shiny and good to look at, took 20 years to smoke good and still gurgles like sucking on a straw in an empty cold drink.

This question raises another issue, at least to me... Over time, Pipes that I was convinced didn't smoke well got a lot of rack time. As my taste profile changed I would use them to try out new-to-me blends, rather than chance ghosting a Pipe I liked with a blend that didn't work out for me. After awhile, I learned that these Pipes I thought were cursed were not bad smokers... I had to find the blend(s) that made them sing and smoke them at a pace they felt good about. Some Pipes are really finicky. In the end, each Pipe will show you what works for that individual. As for gurgle, the only Pipe that I've never had a gurgle from is a Cob. If I get a gurgle in one of these Meerschaums, I just blow it back into the bowl and the Pipe turns it into patina.
