I am enjoying a Basil Rathborne picture just now and began to wonder if the pipes from the Sherlock Holmes films are accounted for.
I guess most were Peterson?

Disclaimer: I am about to go to sleep so may have to revisit this thread tomorrow.

I just imagined you sitting in a room staring at a photograph of Basil Rathborne for roughly 20 or 30 minutes. Though honestly I've noticed Petersons seem pretty well represented in movies from a certain time peroid. Or at least what looks like Petersons.

Some were other pipes. I think one was a Parker.

In watching a lot of movies made in the 1930s and 40s, I see Peterson pipes more than any other brand.

As far as Sherlock Holmes pipes in the Rathbone-Bruce movies, you folks should check out this multi--part article. For some reason, it's hard to get to all the parts, so I'm posting all the links to make it easier for those who are interested.

And, btw, remind Smoking Pipes we want a 4AB!

Howdy Cotton. Interesting to hear of the movie pipes used as mentioned in this thread. Film stuff aside, I assume you know that in the original stories, pipes Holmes smoked that are mentioned are a straight black briar, an old fashion (1700's) clay pipe, and maybe one or two more. Petersons could well have been invloved though, given their 1865 origin. I've surprisingly never come across anyone trying to push a Sherlock Holmes BLACK SHAG tobacco that he smoked, rather than the various blends that have come out associated with his name. Rathbone was the man!

He kept his tobacco in his slipper...kind of gross if you ask me...especially back then when you didn't always shower when you needed to...(I'm a huge Doyle fan by the way, Christie too.)

Anyone familiar with the Jeremy Brett series? I couldn't tell you what pipes he was using, but a great series nonetheless. My favorite, actually.
