Christmas and pipes go so well together, don't they? Santa, Frosty, and Bing Crosby come to mind right away. Who else?

Fred Brown's December piece for PipesMagazine.com is all about the holiday season with pipe and tobacco tie-ins, and even a few gift ideas. Check it out right here.

Merry Christmas and Happy Pipes and Tobacco

During that time period, the common place nature of smoking pipes placed them everywhere. Santa smoked a pipe mainly because it's just what many men of the time did. I don't think I've ever seen depictions of Nicholas of Myra smoking but from the 1900s-1970s it was heavily marketed.

Ah, but hundreds of years later snuff and tobacco were matters of controversy involving some who would later become saints. Had he lived 1600 more years . . . . :)

Somewhat related I enjoy this as both a clever smoking "tale" and maybe some insight beyond the obvious:

A Jesuit was asked whether it was licit to smoke a cigar while praying, and his answer was an unequivocal “no.” However, the subtle Jesuit quickly added that, while it was not licit to smoke a cigar while praying, it was perfectly licit to pray while smoking a cigar. —St. Holger’s Cigar Club

Well, it's deja vu again.... One of our daughter in laws (let's call her Mary) was here this afternoon and dropped off some xmas gifts for me and the wife. Now, this would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. We opened them after Mary left. First my wife got some kind of a pancho, just like last year and the year before! And I got a box of pipe smokers accessories, (kind of like below) just like last year. My wife doesn't like her 3 panchos and as to the pipe stuff, except for a pack of cleaners and a couple of cork knockers the rest is either stuff I don't need or don't want. I'm sure Mary doesn't mean to do this, she just forgets from one year to the next. Of course we called her and told her how much we love the gifts and thanked her. What else can ya do? I'm kind of like Sheldon Cooper in that we both think Xmas gift giving sucks ! puffy
