So.. I've been a pipe smoker for a lot of years. You know what that gets me..OLD..Thats what..Over those years I've probably owned a couple hundred pipes(just 25 now).I lost track years ago of how many different blends I've tried. It seems to me though that I've only scratched the surface. There's so many new pipe carvers around these days, and an endless supply of new blends to try. Most of my pipe smoking years I've read predictions of the demise of pipe smoking. There has to be a market though or all these new pipes and tobacco blends wouldn't be showing up all the time. The only market they have is pipe smokers. There must be more than a few of us.Our demise has not yet come, and probably never will..Unless of course we're taxed to death.

Yup. I think the popularity of pipe smoking has taken an up-tick lately because cigarette smokers

are being taxed out of their habit. That's both bad and good. Bad because I oppose most forms of

taxation; good because cigarette refugees will discover what they've been missing.

I don't think that pipe smokers will be terribly affected by taxes. There are too many of us to help each other out and too many states that still market our weed at affordable prices. The bottom line is that states that don't put unreasonable tax on pipe tobacco will get our business and those that are punitive will lose our business. I am a New York State resident and I don't purchase from New York State vendors because of the tax.

Well I dont think pipe smoking will ever be as expensive as cigarette smoking even if taxes were the same.

Theres about as much tobacco in one 10 minute cigarette as there is in an hour long bowl, and I dont know any pipe smokers that smoke 40 bowls a day, but plenty of cigarette smokers who smoke 40 a day.

As a Canadian pipe smoker, it will take an awful lot to tax the hobby out of existance. I know the Brits, Aussies, Continental Europeans (sorry for the generalization), South Africans, South Americans, Asians, and pretty much everyone else is in the same boat as us, with a taxation rate well above 300%, yet we all seem to have go-to blends that we pay full pop for.
For my money, its Amphora Brown at $22.99/50g and Brigham's Rise and Shine (EMP Clone) at $27.99/50g, even though I know I can get similar products via the internet at less than $10 for the OTC and $13 for the EMP. Of course, thats still less than three days worth of cigarettes at $10 a pack...

I say standup aand fight. Prohibition fail because resistance. I don't think pipe smoking will ever go away, but especially Americans who have some say (ever how small it is) can hold our ground.
