Fred was certainly lucky to have such a mentor, and lucky to be the sort of young person who had the patience to cultivate such a bond. Doc had a lot to share, and he would have had a wonderful second career as a teacher if the opportunity and proximity were present. I was fascinated by many and various of my teachers and adult acquaintances, but I'm sure I didn't cultivate them to the degree that I could have, and benefited us both.
