Pipes: Artisans And Trademarks by Jose Manuel Lopez is an excellent resource if you're interested in estate pipes. It's usually pretty pricey, even used, but it's got a lot of info on some pretty obscure brands and a lot of excellent pics.

All About Tobacco, by Milton Sherman, is out of print, but fortunately available online.

I especially like the way he organizes the Oriental tobaccos.
(ps. The collected works of Bob Tate, created right here at PipesMagazine, and listed

in the left column at the bottom of this page is virtually a book in progress.

And this, being a e-zine dedicated to pipe smoking, is right where you should be -- go figure.

Ask a question, start a discussion, or share your discoveries with us every day.)

For a slightly broader perspective I found Tobacco: A Cultural History of How an Exotic Plant Seduced Civilization by Iain Gately to be a fascinating history of the weed.

Confessions of a Pipeman by Gary B. Schrier is the book that really

got me started on building a library of Pipe & Tobacco books. I don't

agree with everything Gary's written, but I give him credit for being

a driving force in the Pipe world. You really can't help but like the guy.

There's an out of print book that's still available

that's an amusing romantic read the Pipe by George Herment.

You can get copies used off Amazon.

Howdy; If you want to build a library here are some ideas.
"Weber's Guide to Pipes and Pipe Smoking" by Carl Weber
"The Ultimate Pipe Book" by Richard Carlton Hacker
"The Gentle Art of Smoking" by Alfred H. Dunhill
"The Pipe Book" by Alfred Dunhill
"Pipe - The Art and Lore of a Great Tradition" by Robin Crole
There are others too. And there are some magazines out there that you might be able to find issues of.
"Pipe Smoker" Official publication of Pipe Collectors International
"Pipe Friendly" J. Calloway
"Wonderful World of Pipes", (only 2 issues)
"The Complete Smoker"
.... Good hunting....
