We're all here because we enjoy pipe smoking obviously. But when you think about it there is more to it individually for us. What is the "and" for you? By that I mean, what do you enjoy more because of pipe smoking? It can be almost anything to the individual. I see some people enjoy lunting so having a pipe while going for a walk makes it better for them. I can't imagine JimInks drawing without picturing him with a pipe. For those that like fly fishing, I can see it completing the experience.
For me, pipe smoking makes a number of things better.
For me, pipe smoking makes a number of things better.
- I really enjoy having a pipe while I write. I don't do it often but when I do, it always seems to make it better. There is something about looking at the page on the screen and seeing the smoke waft around that makes it more pleasurable.
- I enjoy reading much more while I smoke a pipe. It slows me down and I concentrate on it more, sending my comprehension up.
- Because of the coffee freaks on this forum, I discovered I love homemade espresso with my pipe. For me it's a magical combination where they both make each other better.
- If it weren't for smoking a pipe, I wouldn't have discovered that I enjoy polishing my pipes. It's a task some people hate. Others do it out of necessity and still others find pipe maintenance enjoyable which is the category I fall into. In particular, I love polishing my pipes on my buffer. I love seeing the carnauba taking them from being dull and springing them to a brilliant shine. I'd have never bought a buffer if I didn't own pipes. It's certainly not something you need especially with the cornucopia of pipe care information on the internet and the advancements in waxes like Paragon and Halcyon. But I still enjoy firing up the buffer. I'm not particularly handy when it comes to power tools or most repairs but I enjoy the polishing process, even if I am not at a pro level.
