Pipe Smokers' Retreat

In a world adverse to smoking, pipe shows are a welcomed opportunity to gather with people of like minds.

My question is this, are there any pipe smoking retreats - opportunities to gather with other pipe smokers, share tobacco, meals, drinks, and learn a few more interesting things about the hobby

I envision either a resort or smoke friendly hotel in a peaceful location where pipe smokers can gather and really mingle over a weekend.

Perhaps a few vendors might set up some tables or some knowledgable people come in and present a few lectures.

It can be both entertaining and an opportunity to unwind with like minded people.

What are your thoughts? Is something like this of interest to you.

I've led many motorcycle tours and putting together something of this nature shouldn't be too difficult.

Anyway, I would love to hear what forum readers think about this. Do you know of smoke friendly resorts near B&M pipe stores. San Diego has at least two great pipe stores able to accommodate many smokers and both have places for smokers to gather, sit, and smoke. I think having a pipe store or two nearby would be a draw.

In normal years there are pipe shows that serve, more or less, as retreats in addition to being shows.

Yes, pipe shows tend to be exactly that. In fact, they tend to be staged away from big urban settings, the Chicago pipe show being in an outlying suburb, and the New York pipe show being in New Jersey, and so on. So the designated hotels are usually in grassy treed areas, and the food is concentrated in those hotels or nearby restaurants, with people usually able to walk to the tents or display areas. So that is exactly what pipe shows have been. An entirely non-commercial, non-retail resort gathering might not have as much draw, but it is possible. Or maybe on a small scale, like six or eight pipe friends gathering at a pipe friendly b&b in a scenic place.

I asked a similar question long enough ago that the thread is locked. I did not get much traction.

If I remember the little bit of research I did there's a way to search vrbo (but not airbnb) for smoker-friendly accomodations near national parks which didn't come up with anything tempting enough for me to keep at it.

It's an event I would like to attend if I could. But not one I would enjoy planning

As long as no one suggest holding hands and singing Kumbaya, that sounds like a pipe show. Now, if you include 5 mile hike with 60 lbs pack, firearms, campfire, good spirits (both drinking and friendship kind), and possibly a troop of naked women.. That sounds like a manly camp out. Oh.. Pipe smoking too.

I can't say I'd have much interest in a pipe smoking retreat. As an introvert, the idea of going out to spend time and make awkward small talk with a bunch of people, the only thing I have in common with is pipe smoking, sounds unappealing.
