It's got a bit of a dublin shape to it (gets larger at the top, as opposed to a volcano which gets smaller at the top)... I'd call it a Dublin Billiard Freehand.

Dublin. Bowl is shaped like a funnel. It is still a freehand, so I guess that makes it a Dublinesque Freehand. +1 to OTD. Nice pipe, BTW.

That looks like a Chartan to me, the obvious Double-Comfort stem. Is anything stamped on the briar? The CP may be buffed off the stem. Post a picture of the stamping if you can. If it is a Charatan, it sure looks like a nice one, that grain is beautiful!

Al:
It IS a Charatan. By my best guess, I date it to the early 1960's (definitely Herman Lane era) taking into account the double comfort stem, the nomenclature which reads, "MADE BY HAND" on one side of the shank,

"CHARATAN'S MAKE - LONDON ENGLAND - EXECUTIVE" on three lines on the other side of the shank,

There is also an "X Extra Large" on the bottom, which I unfortunately don't have a photo of. But the "Extra Large" is in a sort of cursive script, and the "X" is block.
You can see that the stem has the CP mark with the C entering the P as well, which I think would also point to the early 1960's. (photo is dark, sorry)

The opposite side of the stem also has a "Reg XXXXX" number but I can't make out the actual numbers in my photo and the pipe is at home. I'll try to bring them out in a photo.
Let me know what you think.
- Myles

Looks to me to be a late 70's Charatan Freehand, the ring looks like it is an addition as it is not flush with the shank and not a perfect fit, could be a repair.

@tobakenist I think it is definitely either a repair was added to perhaps hide a flaw, or just a embellishment add-on. It is also missing any silver hallmarks, which to me would be highly unusual for British silver work.

Sometimes silver is added if a split has occurred in the shank, I have seen charatan freehands before but never seen one with a silver ring, I may be wrong though.
