Pipe shank

I found this in my new pipe. What is that? Is it a damage? The bottom of the shank. Thank you for all the help

No, very often with bent pipes, the draught hole must be drilled at an angle to reach the chamber. This is very common, just perhaps a little unusual to see with the metal cap surrounding it—your thinking it was a chip is understandable.
