Most of the pipe rolls and pouches I’ve seen have a separate space for pipes and a tobacco pouch. I can understand wanting a nice roll/pouch to keep everything separated and in its place for travel but is there any practical reason to not just throw a pipe and sack of tobacco, lighter, etc. in the same pouch for a daily smoke? Maybe just to protect the pipe finish?

tobacco especially certain leaf absorbs smells really readily. So having even a slightly stinky pipe might not be the ideal thing to have sitting in your tobacco. Depends I guess. But why risk it.
Makes sense although I was thinking of having the tobacco in a bag instead of loose.

Best thing to do is try out what you want. More than likely you’ll find reason to modify your approach at some point. Perhaps a reason listed here…or something else you don’t expect. I have a pipe case for two pipes I use sometimes. Usually take loaded. And if traveling some where I’m staying, I just take some jars. So, I find a tobacco pouch for “daily” tobacco to be useless. I also don’t smoke the same tobacco all day… or honestly the same tobacco twice in the same day. ✌️

I have combo Pipe + tobacco pouches, as well as separate pipe cases and tobacco pouches.

I carry my tobacco selections in small ZipLoc baggies. Depends on how many pipes and how much tobacco I feel I might need for the trip.

If you are going to do this there is little practical difference from using a dedicated piping pouch. I prefer to protect my pipes from tampers and lighters, and I like my pipe cleaners straight. That's why I have a dedicated pack to keep that stuff separate.

I don't use my pouch daily, just when I travel. I think for daily use if you're only using one pipe and a bag of tobacco it'd be fine to just grab those and have your tamper etc in a pocket. I like the pouch because it contains everything and its only one item to carry.

I use the tobacco pouch part of the combo pipe/tobacco pouch for my lighter, tamper, wind screen and pipe cap and put the tobacco in a zip lock in one of those basic yellow vinyl rollups.

I'm still trying to figure this out myself. I've bought a one pipe pouch with tobacco and accessory pockets. Right now, I'm wishing that I had bought a 2-piper. Thinking about the small zip baggies for the tobacco so that I can have more than one choice on hand.

This hobby is complicated. But fun! ?
