I would like to buy a pipe making kit for my father. He is retired and has always smoked a pipe so I figured this would be a good project for him. Do I just need to buy the kit for him and the tools are included in the kit or would I have to buy the tools separate? I'm not really sure what he would need for this.

I haven't carved a pipe, but my understanding is the kits come with a pre-drilled bowl and shank and a pre-mounted stem,

then you carve out the shape of the pipe with your own tools. Forums members have suggested using a power tool to do

most of the carving, unless one is an experienced wood carver, or it takes a lot of time and effort. However, I feel lots of

information is forthcoming. Some of the Forums members are experienced carvers.
