^^ That is the pipe he was smoking in 'For a Few Dollars More'.
In 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' it was not a meerschaum pipe (see picture)

P.S. They also have a nice pipe that was used in 'For a Few Dollars More' at Altinok Pipes which I had at one but but have since then sold it.

Yep! Just back from checking Hunters site - wrong movie.
Phil67, that's the one.
Now, is it a Pete, or a WDC? Veering towards a WDC...........anyone?
How historically accurate were the props dept???

My bet would go toward a WDC Wellington for "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly".
This one looks almost just like it.
Wellington

Klause, vulcanite was patented in the mid 19th century so pipes with those stems are probably accurate. Peterson has been around since 1865 so that fits. What I don't know is when Peterson pipes would have been imported to the US and reach the Old West. Maybe it's a stretch but in those movies it's all about the bullets.

I don't think they came in to play too much as Lee Van Cleef smoked pipes in real life.

Made me laugh out loud! Papipeguy, thanks for the info and the laugh - cheers!
Torque, I'm in your camp - I'm convinced its a Wellington.
Hunter - no apology necessary, as I appreciated your assistance - only problem is I'm now eyeing that meer!

I'm of the belief after looking at many photos that it has to be a Wellington as well. That meerschaum he smokes in For A Few Dollars more is an absolute beaut. LVC smoked all his own pipes in his films, the one that could be a Wellington pops up in a few other movies he's done, like Sabata and The Grand Duel.
I'm a big spaghetti western fan and LVC is part of the reason I considered picking up the briar.

And those spaghetti westerns are why I would buy those dog turd looking cigars in the '70's so I could look cool like Clint!

As for historical accuracy those films were quite laughable. In the 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' they were using Civil war era cap & ball guns, but yet they showed Clint and Eli with cartridges in their belts and loading cartridge bullets in those guns! However, when they did so they never showed a close up as that would obviously have been impossible!

They were Italian made westerns...
Which even makes it more ridiculous. Uberti, which is in Italy, makes the finest replica old western guns. They are often used in films by the prop dept. as the vintage Colt guns, for example, can be very expensive, much less being practical to use.
