Found at an antique store. Only marking says "made in London England". 10$ smokes great. Really like it just wish I could find out a little more about it.
Without any other markings, I would have to say it is a "basket pipe" or an inexpensive pipe with no brand name. I may be wrong but that's my thought. They are usually pretty low quality but sometimes you get a really good one like I did.
Thanks, really happy with my purchase. She smokes like a champ. I bought one other pipe, again for $10. I'm not sure what to call it's shape. A Zulu I think...
The wood grain is beautiful though. Have not smoked it yet though. It needs to be reamed. The previous owner quite liked it by the amount of build up.
Thanks lawerence. I was thinking Zulu, but wasn't sure. It's almost like a horn if the top part of the bowl were lopped off. There is quite a taper, and a slight flair. A keeper none the less.
It is possible that it is a Mercier's second. Mercier's (a french company) has/had pipes made in England and sold as seconds. Have one similar to yours with exact same marking in the exact same layout in the same position. The opposite side says Mercier's over Westbury. As with yours it has a number of fills yet smokes well and airway proper and centered in bottom of bowl.
mb1mb... that first one could be the same exact pipe I have... it was my first pipe I ever bought and yes, it was a basket pipe for $15... fantastic smoker, still one of my favorites to this day.
