Having got to know about this well established pipemaker through this forum, & after perusing their site went ahead & bought a delightful pipe from them. An absolute gem of a pipe it was as well, a pencil shanked lightweight canted Dublin or cutty. So well did it smoke that it soon became a favourite, guess what? 2 months in & the bowls burning like guy Fawkes! Considering myself as a slow puffer & I only smoked flakes in the pipe, I would of expected longer than 2 months life out of her. Oh well, after 20 odd years of pipesmoking this is the first bowl that's gone on me maybe I was just unlucky, but as the saying goes 'once burned twice shy' . So it will be a firm adieu from me to la pipe du nord. Cheap 'briar' at dear prices, no excuses.

Give them a chance to make good on the pipe. The worst they can say is no but you could be pleasantly surprised as well. No pipe should burn out in a lifetime let alone a couple of months. Clearly a problem in the briar.
As a relative newcomer to pipe smoking, I've only had one bowl fail, and burn through. It was an unsmoked nekked cob from MM and it was totally my fault for not having broken it in before I chuffed it too heartily.
Lesson learned.
AND: I have discovered that of my current rotation of cobs, it's the unfinished ones I enjoy best.

Did you see any flaw in the chamber when you got the pipe? If not,then the pipe maker didn't either!! Pipe makers do not have X-ray vision you know !! As Pat said there's probably many pipes out there with UNSEEN flaws in the briar. Some of those flaws will never cause a problem,some will. No reputable pipe maker will knowingly sell a pipe he knows will fail !!
Cheers gents, your quite right of course & I shall be sending the pipe back. In hindsight it was quite bad form on my part to come on here complaining before contacting them.
