For those of you with a pipe and tobacco pouch. I have a 4 pipe case that will hold a small tin but i want something for work. I'm thinking a roll up leather pouch that will hold 1 pipe. Tamper, and some tobacco. I do some leatherwork and am going to make this myself. My question to all of you is this. A lot of the tobacco pouches i pull up say they are a lined tobacco pouch. Though they do not say what they're lined with. So could you enlighten as to what some things they are lined with are?

Thanks,

B

The ones I have are lined with a rubber like liner. I don't care much for it because bits of tobacco stick to it and it tends to absorb moisture from the tobacco when it gets hot. I would prefer one that was just all leather with tanned leather on the inside and out. Post some pictures when you make it. would love to see what you come up with.

Mine is rubber also. I use that compartment to store my lighter, tamper and windscreens. I just carry a tin alongside.

Industrial food grade mega plastic!
If such a thing existed... it should line a tobacco pouch.
I think most simple folk like myself just put it inside a zip-lock baggie and THEN throw it into a pouch.

Pretty simple. Throw the baggie away when you're done with it.

Most seem to be lined with a latex material. I have this combo pouch . It is the perfect size for two smaller pipes and about two ounces of tobacco. The side pocket is a great place to stash some pipe cleaners, a pipe nail, and a lighter. I keep the tobacco in a Ziploc snack sized bag with a pouch moistener, so it never comes in contact with the lining.

Well I kind of figured it was rubber/latex, but was hoping to hear different. I'm gonna do a little looking and see what i can find. Maybe just some nice tanned leather smooth side to smooth side. I just for sure don't want rubber. And my pouch i have now I used small tins and sometimes a ziplock. I just want something to be functional for at work that can fit in my shirt pocket or cargo pocket. Preference to shirt pocket for the sake of my pipe. I'll see what i can come up with and post it up when i figure it all out.

The latex usually wears out after a while and I just gut it. Zip lock baggies work great; I like the thicker freezer style kind, not the thin sandwich bags. I was toying around with the idea of keeping tobacco in a plastic test tube with a stopper. A 16mm tube fits perfectly in a .75 inch chamber width so you could just upend it to fill your pipe and it's long and thin which is ideal for a roll up pouch.
