Today the wife and I did some thrift shop treasure hunting and I ended up picking up a medico vfq bulldog and a Dr. Charles Supreme. They were both $10 each. Not a bad score.

Dude that bulldog is cool looking. I am a big fan of them and don't own one yet.

Thanks. I am planning on sanding the bulldog, give it a good waxing and buffing. The same place has another bulldog. Its a natural rustic no-name. Needs a lot of tlc. I am probably picking it up tomorrow.
I have spoke with my grandfather in law (master crafts man) he told me that a quick sanding, waxing and a buffing will make it look better. Any other tips/ideas?
Thank you

Here's an excellent 3-part video on how to refurbish pipes. I used this method on a 25+ year old Ben Wade that was in pretty rough shape. Looks good as new now (cept for a couple bites that couldn't buff out...)

So I am gonna clean the bowls and stems tonight. Tomorrow I am picking up some Tripoli buffing compound, and some carnauba wax. I hope she turns out nice enough for a photo shoot. Once again, thank you all.

I've always like the Medicos with that fake cumberland stem. Always have a couple of Medicos in my rotation. Good scores!!

Jasongone: I think I will have a good time. Thank you, If I wasn't a DIY kind of guy I would have sent her over to you, your pipes are a thing of beauty.

So I cleaned the bowl with the salt alcohol mixture, i cleaned the crap out of the shank. I stripped with ever was left of the finish/wax and gave it a nice buffing. The pipe looks good but on the one side the grooves or "rails" are nothing more them just crud. Not deep rails any more like the opposite side is. I went to the local tobacco store here and inquired about if they or if they knew a person that refurbishes pipes. Sure enough they had a guy and I talked to him. He is going to see what he can do to the pipe tonight. So fingers crossed he can save the grooves.
I will be probably be doing the stem tomorrow if the wife doesn't have any chores for me to do.

I stopped by the shop after i dropped off my kids for school and I must say that I am disappointed. The rails or ridge is gone :( it now kind looks like a bulldog apple cross. It'll be ready this afternoon.
