So, I've been trying to order a Peterson Aran calabash from pipesandcigars.com, but (though it said most Arans were in stock) I got an email saying the entire Aran line was on backorder from the manufacturer for an undetermined amount of time. So I think I might shoot for a Savinelli in stead. If you had to choose one of these four pipes, which would you take?
1. Trevi rustic 616 Egg/Billiard

2. Florence grey matte 920

3. il Meglio rustic Billiard

4. Caramella ZB sandblast 626 Apple

I know it's my choice in the end, but I'm really pretty split between these models.

I like the looks of the Carmella (I have one on my Christmas list) but that Trevi is nice. No matter which you choose, bet it'll be a good one. I'd go for the Carmella.

Yes, the 05 - it's listed on pipesandcigars as a calabash, though it does look a more squat than the traditional calabash I've seen.

It came down to the Caramella and the il Meglio, but I went with the Caramella in the end. Which is good, because I just found out my dad bought me this Peterson/Zippo gift set from Amazon as a Christmas gift. :D

I'm pretty happy about that, too. I was talking to him about taking up a pipe about a month or so ago when I was home on leave, and must've only mentioned Peterson once. Now that my first PAD affliction is subdued, it's time to check out some new guitar gear :D

Actually my dad is buying a Savinelli Caramella 920 smooth finish for me for Christmas. I like the 920 shape a lot. I have an Aran 05 and I like it a lot. Good pipe. In the beginning it was a bit difficult getting a pipe cleaner through, but over time that difficulty went away. It's great smoker.

Just got the Caramella 626 in the mail, along with some wind screens (going to be a HUGE help), a couple pouches of Middletons Apple and some H&H Sweet and Savory. Also received my Mr. Brog Army style pipe. Taking a draw from it empty I can taste the pear wood already - should compliment the Apple nicely. The Caramella feels SOOOO light.. I'm kinda nervous about the wooden filters, though. I'll give it a shot, otherwise it comes with a filler piece to close up the draw if you remove the filter.

If you decide to not use a filter in your new 626 here's a FWIW.

I don't use filters in any of my pipes and with the Savinellis I have I also don't use the "adapter". Just one more thing to fiddle with.

Savinelli claims that using the filter adapter will in some way prevent damage to the shank. Going out on a limb and knocking on wood... no problems for me by not using the thing.

Ditto on the filters. I have a 616Ksand a 626. I tried the filters first, but felt the draw was too restricted. Took them out, smokes perfectly !

You're in luck, Shain, that's the one that showed up today. Had my final smoke/first smoke of the year in it.

Just tested out my Mr. Brog Army with some Middleton Apple blend, as well. Figured it'd be a good smoke seeing as it's made of pear wood - damnit was I ever right. That Middleton has never tasted so good.
