So I reckon this is a generic question, but I am confused a bit. I have been looking over the Peterson brand on several sites and noticed that there is an actual section on most sites for "Peterson System Pipes". Now my question is, don't all Peterson pipes use the Peterson System, or are those just a more expensive "option" for the Peterson pipes?

Not all Petes implement the "system", and not all Petes have a P-lip.
There are plenty lesser priced systems in the lineup. Price is dictated more by series.

Estate system pipes can be quite affordable.

Definitely the Peterson Systems pipes are a special category in their line, and I believe most of the pipes they sell are not systems pipes, which have extra drilling to include a moisture catching channel. I have six or so Petes and none of them are system pipes. Shop some of the online retailers and you will soon see this is true. The Systems pipes cost more new. I'm not sure how their prices go in estate pipes.

Okay, I had just assumed that all of the Peterson pipes had the "System" in them, but I can see how the prices vary between those that clearly state they have it and the ones that don't. I wouldn't mind owning one someday just to see how well they work, but will likely just hit up the estates market on one some day.

System pipes have a small trap for moisture and sludge between the bowl and the smoker... it is near the bowl and can be cleaned by snaking a pipe cleaner to this spot, instead of ending up in the bowl. Best shown in an illustration:

As you've since noticed, the system pipes will always be explicitly identified as such. They're a little higher maintenance, but the ones I have are good smokers.

Has anyone tried the system on a straight Peterson?
I've only had Petes that are bent with the system. I like it in that the pipe cleaner is directed into the "well" to remove moisture but dislike the fact it is difficult to get a cleaner into the bottom of the bowl if the draft hole gets clogged. It's easy enough to just remove the stem to correct that issue, but that is besides the point. haha

Many bent Pete’s have a well just like a system pipe. Just thought i’d add that to muddify things.

Some must have real aggravation with moisture and gurgle, there are so many different systems, filters, stingers, etc., to remedy the problem. I have never struggled with moisture, so none of this calls to me. I think my relatively "dry" smoking may be attributable to: 1) Usually smoking only one bowl at a time; 2) smoking mostly non-aromatics or tobacco-forward aros (fairly dry not gooey); 3) not clenching continually, just lighting up and tamping; 4) having a large rotation of pipes so they start dry and have long rests. So for me, Pete Systems pipes probably wouldn't be worth the trouble.

I have no problems with moisture and gurgle whatever pipe I smoke, but I like the way Peterson systems looks.

And Craig...…. I smoked systems last week de luxe, premier and standard and as you said, I almost think that I prefer standards.
