I took a risk on this Peterson Sterling 999, with only a few poor eBay photos, but the risk paid off. Full restoration details are my my blog entry at Reborn Pipes. This one has faux hallmarks, as US bound Sterlings did, but the round "Made in Ireland" COM dates it to approximately 1945 to 1947.

Where NY, CT & MA meet
Was it a stinger or a hollow tube like a Dunhill inner tube?
Stinger. It’s press-fit so came out easily. I believe there is a thread on reborn pipes about a similar one. I would guess that since they were for the American market the stingers were standard but bc they were easily removed, most were. My Sterling 999 had a deeper well than a standard 999 to accommodate the stinger.
