Someone once asked me why I liked precious metal bands, caps, and so forth on pipes (when it's stylistically appropriate, of course), and I said, "Because silver or gold adds a dash of barbaric splendor... something that's largely missing from life in modern times." I've never been able to further refine or improve on that answer. It's still how I think of it.
Pete's Silver Army Spigot series---the ones that have silver turned over the butt end of the stem in addition to the shank cap---are the best thing out there for silver lovers, imo. Reasonably priced, never have fills (though they might have a few pits/specks), and available in most of their standard numbered shapes.
48.1 grams, 5.5" long

I love my Silver Spigots. It's hard to miss them when they're on the rack, standing out like royalty among the other pipes, polished silver gleaming, beckoning to me to be picked up and smoked.
Lovely grain on that old spigot of yours, George.

A silver spigot Pete is at the top of my list for next acquisition. Arguably the strongest pipes in Pete's line these days.

The silver spigots are the only Petes I look at any more.
Beautiful pipes, in my eye.

Coincidentally, I happen to be smoking a Ferndown with one of Les Wood's famous silver bands. That Pete is beautiful; do you think the 01 shape is their first?

I've wondered that many times myself. It seems possible/reasonable with it being such an excellent example of form following function. A more fundamentally sound, no-frills design is difficult to imagine.

I have now two Petersons with Silver bad,(Harp&Ashfords)but I'm coming to realisation that only this sterling addition to pipe does have a negative affect on the price of the pipe, meaning if both the wood and silverwork are of excellent quality, then due to only silver addition the price is becoming far from being affordable.Thats how it goes nowadays,of course among contemporary Petersons these Spigots are just what I would liked to own but just now they out of my possibilities.
