I got this pipe and loving it. Since this type of rustication is so recognized with Peterson,

I was wondering what is it called and are they the only who are doing it?

Donegal Rocky. I personally like the older version of this finish, 1970's ~ 1980's.

Peterson still utilizes a variety of rustication patterns, but, yeah, I'm not too fond of the first 1 posted either. I certainly agree that the rustication used on earlier Donegals was nicer. The 1 I've got is quite craggier than what you posted Al and is 1 of their scarce squat bulldogs I bought off the Bay years ago. They also used silver then too as opposed to nickel. The black craggy look of the pipe looks quite nice paired with silver.

Thats cool, I`m almost sure its because of a cousin I had whom I really liked, He used to smoke this kind of pipe. I tend to believe the love I have for Latakia is because of the same reason... BTW quick google shows that Dremel was developed in 1932. I wonder what is the first year Peterson started with this type of rustication.

As for when that style of rustication started, am of the opinion that certainly it's been around only a decade or less for I've only seen it in recent years. As I noted, they also use other styles of rustication. An example of that is the style they use on Kinsales which can be seen in the photo of the XL26 on this forum page. Will say, in general, that I prefer the rustication they used from 20+years ago as it tended to be a lovely craggy affair. Several of my pipes which are 20+ years old have a very craggy surface.
