I recently got my 1st taste of Petersons Royal Yacht and was blown away. I've never cared for the Peterson blends I've tried in the past, so I shied away from them until I picked up this tin at an estate sale for $8, prompting me to order 5 more tins this morning.

My question is a pipe smoking friend 5 yrs. my senior at 71 told me if I liked this one so well, I should look for the original Dunhill blend. Knowing I'll never find it I've read up on the difference and most say there is little to none, just wondering if anyone has the same or different opinions and if perusing a tobacco scalper search would be worth the time and money.

I’d be happy to try the Dunhill if I came across it, but I like the current stuff well enough I’m not concerned with paying a premium for one tin (whose contents may or may not be in good condition) of the Dunhill.
I’d rather just grab a few more tins of the Peterson.

I forget the dates, but STG has made the Dunhill and Peterson branded tins for the past 15 years or so and Murray’s made them for the previous 20th years before that.

Google says it’s been Orlik/StG since 2006.

The only difference between the two is the label.
STG had been producing its clones of the Dunhill tobaccos under license from BAT, who controlled the rights to the Dunhill brand name for tobacco products. When Dunhill decided to disassociate the Dunhill name from tobacco, BAT ended the STG license and production of the blends. STG bought the rights to continue producing the blends, including the rights to the blend names and labeling, but not to the Dunhill name. Since STG already owned the Peterson name for tobacco products, they substituted Peterson for Dunhill and continued to produce the blends.

Of course, there’s the chance that components have been substituted, like many other blends being produced today, but initially it was a continuation of the same product.

Thanks to all for the insight. My wife has decided I'll retire after the first of the year and it helps to know I won't have to ask permission for a couple more weeks so I can find out the hard way it's the same stuff.
