Does anyone have an idea on the difference on Peterson Old Dublin and Dunhill's Nightcap?
I've got some sample Nightcap tobacco from my local tobacco shop and mannnn it was really strong for me. I am a aromatic smoker. I felt really uncomfortable as I smoked the Nightcap. Felt like I was gonna puke! Yes, that bad. Maybe I am not used to it or smoked it too fast.
Was just wondering whether will it be the same with Old Dublin as I have bought it. Just worried that it will be too strong for me.
Any advice? :)z
Thanks

Dunhill blends do tend to have more of a nic hit than many of the same genres. NC is well known to be strong in taste too, probably due to the Perique they have in addition to the copious Lat. I myself love both NC and Old Dublin, which is a little lighter

Some people say that this blend is closer to Dunhill 965 than Night Cap. Quite frankly I haven't tried it, but if you would like a lighter English blend, especially if you are an aro smoker switching to other stuff, night cap is certainly not what I would recommend. Try ... Ratrays's 7 reserve, of Ashton Consummate Gentleman, those I find to be a tad on the light side.

I am smoking Old Dublin right now. It has no perique, and has less latakia - and nic - then Nightcap. Peterson doesn't do a lot of lat blends; this one is by far my fave.

I haven't tried any of the Dunhill stuff yet, but OD was my first tobacco purchase and I like it quite a bit. The smell of the tobacco alone is beautiful with a really nice smokey note. As far as strength goes, I think I'm immune to the strength of tobacco as I started smoking cigars a long time ago and have even had some of the strongest cigars (in 6X60 format) back to back and had no issues.
That being said, the Old Dublin for me isn't big on flavor either, it's definitely a roasty smoke in my opinion. I enjoy it, but perhaps something like Frog Mortons Cellar would be a better choice if you're looking to get into Latakia blends?

Old Dublin is a close ringer for 965. If you don't like Nightcap you may not like Old Dublin - it does have a touch of cavendish the Nightcap doesn't have. So the sweeter edge might go over better. But it may be the Latakia smokiness you're not used to.

I find Old Dublin to be smoother and mellower all the way around (and to be tremendously good). It has a lot of Lat, but it's not nearly as overpowering as the Lat in Nightcap. As has been noted, there is no Perique in OD, and there is cavendish in OD but not in NC. No Perique means no peppery punch in the nose; the cavendish smooths the components out and feathers them together very nicely. While I like NC on occasion, I like OD on a lot more occasions.

Judging by the comments, I need to pickup some Nightcap and 965 lol
I really heavily enjoy OD, and it was my first tobacco purchased and I have it jarred and it's even better than it was when I first got it.
I might love Nightcap and 965 now! :D

I've smoked both. To me, Nightcap has a much heavier, smokier flavor mixed with perique, plus stronger nicotine. Old Dublin is somewhat less smoky, with a nice balance of latakia and orientals. Plus there's a bit of lemongrass flavor in the background. I would rate nicotine as medium. To me, Old Dublin is a more complex and enjoyable blend than Nightcap. Nightcap is just too strong, heavy, and one-dimensional for my taste. Old Dublin is very comparable to MM965 (although less sweet) and makes a great substitution because it's still in production. I still smoke OD regularly and it's one of my favorites. Highly underrated in my opinion.

Nothing is as strong of an English as Nightcap and I speak from the experience of trying nearly anything that's available, at least in a tin.
If Nic is an issue, but still want to explore English blends - go with McClelland, something like their frog line, but really, all of theirs are very, very light, yet quality leaf.

Nearly all the bulk English offerings (McClelland, Stokkebye, etc.) are light, some may be medium in nic.
