Peterson used to make a meerschaum bulldog shape 150s and I’d like to know when they stopped making that style and shape in a meer. Late 50s or 60s? Possibly later even?

I’ve got one and I just had a replacement stem fitted with a fishtail that makes the pipe more enjoyable for me to smoke. I was able to keep the original p-lip if I ever want to go back but I seriously doubt it!

These were either African or maybe Manx meerschaum, maybe someone can tell me for sure. Either way I’d really like to know when they stopped making these war hammer meers - not terribly interested in trying to pin down the date it was made or anything, rather just want to know if they are still out there or likely all used up. If they are still out there I’d be curious if the S designation was for a saddle bit and maybe even if there was ever a non-saddle option? Especially a non P-lip stem in a non-saddle bit?

Ooh, and with a 14 karat unicorn embossed on it. ?.

This is what happens to pipe smokers with too much time on their hands. Curiosity sets in about random and not very important trivial matters.

Anyway, anybody know any of these things?

African Meer, made at the Manx factory, they also did many others; Barling, GBD, Nording... and had their own brands. The African mines are all closed, what's out in the wild is all there is. They're my favorite too, I used to have that same Peterson 150.

Wow! Great information, thanks! I’m surprised they were made until that late. I’d definitely buy another. This heavy meer is quite pleasant to smoke and seems appropriate for a Pete.

I picked this on up in a junk shop for $15 and had it re-dyed to help the appearance but after a year or more just couldn’t find any love for the p-lip so had a fishtail stem fitted. Man, what an improvement IMO.
