I did some quit searching on the forum and on luxurytobaccoreviews.com and didnt find much about this blend. Today at the B&M it was gifted to me by a semi-regular individual as a thank for my service. was a really nice gesture from someone who i had only just met. anyways, ive never had this blend and never really had a whole tins worth of tobacco that had perique in it. Im anxious to try it but i think i will add it to the cellar. anyone recommend it? the good? the bad? the ugly? thanks guys!

Thanks Roth! seems like i might enjoy it. I like a little bit of perique but i do like some cavendish. i will cellar it away to forget about it for a year or so. Im trying to go through what i have opened first before opening anything else.

I've smoked a couple tins of Irish Oak over the past year. Nutty, woodsy, a bit of Perique ( this is one of the few blends I like that has Perique in it ), quite a bit of Vitamin N ..... sort of reminds me of a much tamer and nuttier Irish Flake. Can't say anything bad about it. Burns to a white ash. Better out of a tall bowl. Could bite if you puff too fast, but if you have the same low tolerance as I do the nicotine will get to you before the burning tongue .....

thanks RC. I think i have a relatively high N tolerance just because i chew. never had an issue with pipe smoking as far as N goes. but i know from past experiences always have a full stomach. wish the first time i tried chewing someone had told me that!!

Respect the Irish Oak! It will burn your face off if you're not careful! It actually has a pretty high amount of perique, in my humble opinion, and by the end of the bowl, I'm feeling like I've been eating spicy food. I love the rich flavours, like there seems to be a hint of cigar leaf or something like that. It burns like a dream! I've had two-match bowls of Irish Oak: 1 char, one true and smoked it to the bottom.
Once I wasn't careful with the char light and it basically burned my entire nasal passage. LOL So I say, respect the Irish Oak. Use what Pease talks about when lighting: tease the flame gently over the bowl, don't put the flame right over the tobacco and make it red hot, you'll be sorry.
In short, I love this blend and it makes me feel like a codger when I smoke it.

This is one of very few tobaccos I just cannot smoke because of the overwhelming nic-kick.
Don't know if it objectively has more than some other strong ones - but the particular chemistry of this tobacco just kicks my butt.

I love this stuff very much! Both it and Escudo are Va/Pers that don't give me the hiccups and that nauseating fuzzy lump in my throat.

Nice and strong, Will enlarge your Prostate.

It gives me a lump in my throat by the end of the bowl.
I would also like to add that Irish Oak is the only tobacco I have put down before it has gone out, basically because I couldn't take any more!

Peterson's Irish Oak for me smokes best in a smaller pipe. The strength becomes subdued and the incredible flavor comes through instead.

Good stuff!

I'm with Bulldog Mick on Irish Oak.
I wasn't sure about it at first, then realized that I was drawn to it.

The more I smoked it the more I liked it.

Now and again I'll add a pinch of Perique to it to give it a little extra kick of that great spice tobacco.

I love me some Perique.

I like it. One of my top 20 blends. I never noticed the butt-kicking qualities you guys mention, but I will load some right now, after breakfast, to check that out. And maybe some extra perique as Lawrence suggests.
