You have to give the guy a lot of credit for walking the walk. First he turned down an 8 million dollar contract and now this latest below. He seems completely authentic...his simple song just tapped into the giant well of pain, anger and frustration in the working class for being treated like dog shit for so many years.

“I had to pull off on the side of the road and make this video. My adrenaline’s pumping. I’m p*ssed off right now,” the singer said in a video posted to Instagram on Monday.

“Don’t buy Cotton Eyed Joe tickets for $99 a piece and sure as hell don’t buy VIP passes for whatever bulls*** price they’re on,” he added.

Anthony explained that a friend of his, who is a plumber by trade, has been filling in as a part-time booking agent for the performer.

“He agreed to this show, I guess, without asking what the ticket prices are,” Anthony said.

“Don’t pay $100 for a ticket. That’s horses***. If we’ve got to cancel the venue and play somewhere else, we will. I didn’t agree to it, and I don’t want you to pay it,” he told his fans.

Thanks for posting this interview. I had missed it but just watched the entire thing.

As much I love and admire Dr. Peterson (and believe me, I've learned a ton from him), I really wish he'd let his guests talk more. I heard about a third of what I hoped to hear from Oliver Anthony here. His song blowing up has been a neat thing to see, and I was really impressed with how he presented himself here.

I can only try and imagine the ride he's been on for the past few weeks. He definitely tapped into the "angry young man" element with his song.

There are always plenty of angry young men in every age, but this one age seems to have added a large dose of hopelessness to go along with it, which has upped the game quite a bit.

While it is admirable for Oliver to turn down 8 million by the same white collar thugs he's singing against, I do hope he finds some level of financial success, or else it will be all or nothing. Remaining broke or struggling will do him no good. One of the more interesting things about life in these times is how so many loath the rich and blame "them" for their struggles, while they also seem to find virtue in shunning success of any kind that leads to financial independence. It only proves that people are very hard to please.

Well, the thing is, his song isn't talking about the "rich" in general, but some very specific rich men north of Richmond.

As for the recording contract he turned down, those come with some serious strings attached...so I think he was smart to not put himself in that soul-crushing gilded cage if he doesn't want to live that way.

As Hunter Thompson said:

“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.”

Record company types are absolutely the type of rich people he is singing about. “Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do…” etc. All about control and cashing in on him as the latest product to peddle. I wish him well.
