Did you just refill it? They will do that after a refill. They will also do that if you don’t bleed them off before refilling, it’s an oxygen rich flame.
Sounds like you need to bleed the air out of it.
Take a flathead screwdriver, or key or something and depress the nozzle that you fill with, untill you hear no more gas or air coming out. Then you fill it.
Of course, Zippo doesn't need to be bleed.
I just use my Czech tool's rounded poker piece. You know, the one that isn't a tamper or a spoon.
Unfortunately I think these lighters might be disposable but after you purge it put it in the freezer for awhile and warm the gas under your arm. Lighters can be frustrating and expensive to deal with. I collect them. Some are repairable and most are not.
It's a self defense lighter. Won't kill the mugger but they'll wish they didn't try to bum a light before mugging you.
Thanks. We have taken one step forward and I now get a sensible flame. No regulator though. Proper flame but I can’t control increase or decrease. Could it be the small o ring?

You have to bleed all the air out. You can prob use your tritool to bleed it. Hold it for a while until its allllll out.
Update: Bleeding helps. It now starts like a flame thrower each time. Burns out quickly. No flame control. Takes tiny amount of fuel to blast out flame. Still not found o ring.
