Couch for sure. It's just long enough and heavy enough to make it uncomfortable for being a pure clenched. I think it would be fine if you clenched off and on but not if you kept in your mouth for 30+ minutes straight.

There's some smaller bulldogs out there that I'd imagine would be good clenchers, particularly the short ones made by Martin Cermak.

There's a lot in play here. A smoker can only tell you what he can or cannot clench. Your teeth, jaw structure, pipe style (bent, straight, weight, etc.), jaw muscles will ultimately decide what or, even if you can clench. So, any advice is simply anecdotal. You're going to have to experiment a bit.

I find I clench comfortably, for long periods of time, if the pipe is bent to some degree which allows me to clench, not clinch with pressure, I simply let the pipe rest, without pressure, between the rear molars, So, prefer bent with a weighty bowl which keeps the bit, up against my upper molar.

You'll need to experiment a bit to find a combination of pipe(s), position, etc. and see if something works for you and your jay/teeth.

Thank you Warren. Good advice and I know exactly what you mean.

I am looking for a pipe like this:

I’m not familiar with the 80S. Is it a good “walk around” pipe or is it a better couch potato. My other Peterson is a bent 317 and I like how light and clinchable it is for walks.
That 80s is a mighty handsome pipe. I am not sure about the 9mm filter, but it doesn’t diminish the appeal of that pipe to me. Good luck with your purchase decision!

It's awfully small and only around 45 grams. I'd say it could easily be a long term clenchable piece. Probably more so with a fishtail stem.
Nobody's going to take YOUR advice on how light and easy clenched a pipe can be. We've seen the pictures. You aren't fooling anyone puffy

The 80s is tiny. I'd class it in the group 2 category. If you only bite down enough to keep a pipe from falling and not clamp down on them like a vise, any pipe is clenchable for long periods as long as the have a decent button.

My 80s is 49g so fairly light in comparison to a lot of my pipes. I find it easy to clench when I'm doing something and I don't normally hang a pipe in my mouth for long periods of time.

I bought an Irish Harp 80s but sold it when I bought a Short 80s which was more to my liking
If you are looking for a clencher the Short 80s may be the better choice. It comes with a fishtail stem.

Totally forgot about the Short 80s as they show up so infrequently but I agree that this would be a really good option.
