I picked up a sample of this blend at the Chicago Show.
This has really been a pleasant surprise. I can’t get over how consistently sweet it is, which I did not expect from a blend that doubles as a RYO. Either there a some very sugary bright Virginias in it or there is a slight honey or sugar topping. The orientals provide a woody and toasty nuttiness, with just the right amount of spice hit. That being said, the oriental presence is not very prominent. Very pleasant, and gets richer deeper in the bowl. I’m not sure I’ll make it a priority to get more, but it’s a very nice change of pace.

Really like this one too. Sometimes I will layer it in a parfait with some ass-kicker blend like Kendal No 4 or Happy Bogie or such and it gives a magical smoke. The Norwegian provides that sweetness that you refer to with a touch of Oriental, and the heavy hitter provides body and strength. It's a thing of beauty, but just straight Norwegian is quite enjoyable on its own too.

suppose this will be at the top of my list of PS blends to sample, as sometimes I could really go for something sweet.

Just ordered and tried PS Amsterdam myself, and find it an excellent, nuanced, fully flavorful but not overbearing Virginia/Oriental blend. I have several PS blends on hand, all good. The bulk prices keep these premium tobaccos an entirely pleasing and still thrifty choice.

I do smoke PS Amsterdam and enjoy it very much. It's an everyday smoke for me. Today I almost bought some PS Norwegian, but at the last minute decided to buy the PS Turkish. No particular reason for choosing the Turkish, I just got a gut feeling that I may enjoy it more then the Norwegian.

I thought Amsterdam contained Dark Fired Kentucky and Virginia and not Oriental.

ray47 ... you're right. I've been steeping in the tobacco pages. My mind reels.

I’ve been working through my sample of Norwegian, and I have to say that I keep being surprised by how good it is. It’s a $30/lb. RYO crossover, so I expect not to like it, but it is really, really good. If you want a mild but very tasty non-aromatic smoke, this is it. As I mentioned before, it has a good bit of natural sweetness, and the burley and orientals give a great woody, toasty, and nutty background. I cannot make it bite, and it’s so mild that there are no rough edges. If you’re in the mood for something rich and deep, this ain’t it, but it’s a great simple smoke. An added bonus is that it mixes very well with a pinch of various aromatics if you want a bit more sweetness or a particular flavor. It’s primarily Va, so it presumably will age well. At this price, I’ll be ordering a couple of pounds soon.
