So I’ve been wanting an early 1900’s Peterson army mount, as issued (or a JAP B), but I don’t think one’s in the near future.

I’m thinking hard about a Short Army 102/105 to scratch that itch and give Pete’s a try. I want vulcanite p-lip if I’m going to try a Pete (only makes sense I think).

Is there a benefit to the rustication? I think smooth would be more in line with what I’m looking for, but if there’s a benefit I may go the more economic choice.

Thanks for the input. I pulled the trigger on a rusticated 102. Being an outdoor at home and at work smoker, I’m usually reaching for my pipes with a 3/4 x 1 1/4 bowl size.

I’m so glad this line came out-it is the first new pipe I’ve gotten, I’m mainly drawn to mid century or earlier American estates but this Pete will celebrate my lineage (German to US by way of Ireland). And it kid if scratches the itch for a K&P early 1900’s army issue. The latter will be down the road someday…

It's purely a matter a preference, there are no measurable benefits to one or the other other than cost. I personally love petersons but hate their current rustication. I find it to be clunky and unattractive, this is of course just my opinion and not anything based in science or facts.

I almost grabbed Aro’s smooth 102, but I’m not a fan of the reddish color of the this line’s smooths.
I’ll save the smooth for an old one. Their sandblast looked nice, but was the most limited finish this run.

Not to mention it was less money when my spending should be focused on property improvement.
The free tin of Deluxe Navy Rolls and free shipping pushed me over the edge😆

I’m curious if this (the Short Army) is going to be a one and done release or if it will be a standard offering.

I read it was limited but I imagine if it’s popular enough they could make it a staple. Although, some companies do choose to keep thinks limited in order to drive up demand. Hopefully that isn’t the case.

Those are great pipes. I didn’t know how much I would like rustication until I got a rusticated Pete system pipe. It feels so much better in my hand than a smooth. Try it, you may like it! The tactile experience is very enjoyable for some reason.
